The Phantom Masquerade by A.L. Hawke is a romance story featuring Mina. While Mina was in Paris, she had met Toni and performed several plays with him. Now in the United States, Toni arranges a meeting with Mina and offers her the lead role in his Broadway play. When Mina accepts her dream job, she begins seeing Erik, an alluring French man who wears a mask. There is a problem, only Mina can see and hear Erik. Mina begins to struggle with her feelings as Erik constantly forewarns her of an impending disaster if she continues to star as The Harlequin in Toni’s show. Meanwhile, Mina feels obligated to meet Toni’s expectations and is confused by Gail’s sudden confession of love. The closer that opening night comes, the more sinister Erik appears. “This is where I fall” keeps overshadowing Mina’s mind.
